Our Story
Hi there and thank you for reading our family story! We are Katie, Greg and Mia Hope. We have been together and in love for 14 years, married for 9 years and the happiest parents in the world for the past 3 years!
Greg and I were married on a Caribbean Island surrounded by our closest family and friends in 2012. The love we felt that day has only grown deeper day after day since. Family is THE most important thing to us so we knew right away we wanted to have a home filled with the love and laughter of our children. Adoption has always been in our minds and hearts and our dream of adopting our first child came true 3 years ago! We received a call about a baby in the NICU and a few hours later we walked into a hospital room and saw the little soul that would make us a Mommy and Daddy. Our hearts swelled that very second and have not stopped growing since. Mia has brought more joy to our lives than we ever thought possible.
After 3 years of heaven as a family “triangle”, we are MORE than ready to turn our family into a loving “square”! We know in our hearts we are meant to complete our family through adoption. We want to hear the laughter of Mia playing with her sibling. We want her to know the pure joy having a brother or sister is on Christmas morning as they run to the Christmas tree or on our summer vacation as they play in the sand and splash in the water. We know our hearts have so much more love to share and love multiplies when a family grows.
Family Life
The values we believe in above anything is our family. We are very close to our family and friends and they are a part of everything we do. Birthdays, holidays, vacations, weekend BBQ’s, sporting games, Sunday dinners are shared with our loved ones. Our home is filled with joy and laughter regularly.
We have two cats, Aly and Missy who both adore Mia! She dresses Aly up in scarves and bows and sometimes builds blocks on Missy. They are truly a huge part of our family!
We attend our beautiful local church and Mia has been baptized in the Catholic church and we plan to continue raising her in the Catholic faith.
Lifestyle
We live in an amazing lake town! We have 5 beaches that we can walk or bike to as well as ice cream shops, coffee shops and a Main Street with an arcade and bakery just to name a few. The children here bike to school and we have a town summer camp throughout the summer that teaches children how to swim, canoe, kayak and so much more! We are surrounded by families with young children and it is the most fantastic feeling watching Mia play on the playgrounds with her neighborhood friends.
We love to go on hikes and visit the horse farms and animal refuge that we have close by. One of our favorite things to do is go on a tractor ride and pick apples or strawberries or pumpkins in the fall.
In the summer we ride our bikes to one of our beaches and swim in the lakes then have lunch picnics. Fall is pumpkin picking and hayrides while winter is sledding and ice skating when the lakes are frozen.
No matter what the season we are a family and neighborhood of fun and excitement!
We would also like you to know that our town has a wonderfully high number of adopted families! It’s so amazing to know so many families that have grown through adoption just like us. On our block alone there are 4 families with adopted children. It gives us such a sense of happiness to know that our children will be surrounded by friends who can relate and truly understand.
Adoption
We can’t even begin to imagine what a birth parent goes through. Please know that if we are chosen to be the forever family for your child we will be happy to send updates and pictures to you. With Mia, we know her birth mother wanted peace in knowing she made the right decision. We are happy to keep in contact with you through letters and pictures.
We have always been surrounded by a diverse group of friends and family. Greg’s family is directly from Puerto Rico and he has many cousins of different ethnicities and races including black, Hispanic and Asian.
Our daughter Mia is of Chinese descent. Our very good friends who live down the street have 2 adopted African American boys and a few houses down our other friends have 2 adopted Asian girls.
Although we very much understand that multiracial families have to overcome certain obstacles in life, we are prepared and continue to educate ourselves so that our children have the best life regardless of the color of their skin. We believe FAMILY IS LOVE no matter what!
