Mary Ann and Kevin met on a blind date in Summit, NJ on a snowy evening in February, 2007. We fell in love and became one on New Year’s Day 2009. Our wedding slogan was “A New Year, A New Beginning” and our Mass and reception were attended by many family relatives and life-long friends.
Both of us have worked hard to build successful careers in finance and healthcare respectively. Kevin loves investing and Mary Ann knows a lot about cutting edge oncology drug development. Through achievement and setting good examples for others, we’ve both become leaders.
Kevin has been one to always focus on academics. As an only child, he was given the chance by his parents to focus on his studies and make the most of his opportunities. His parents were immigrants from Ireland. His father died too young. His mother worked doubly hard to make sure that Kevin was blessed with a loving home and support so that he could pursue his educational and career dreams.
Mary Ann also grew up in NJ and is very close to her parents. She also did well in school via hard work. Her parents exposed Mary Ann and her sister to many experiences growing up: 4-H, color guard, skiing, and travel.
We adopted Mary Rose in 2017 and she is the joy of our lives! She has been a blessing to us and we are so grateful to her kind, compassionate birth mother and birth father!
Many of our values and traditions come from our families and faith. We are practicing Catholics. Our marriage is based on love, God, mutual respect and kindness.
We deal with issues that may arise through thoughtful communication with each other and understanding the other person’s perspectives first. We know that we can always count on one another for support during life’s difficult moments.
Upon becoming parents to Mary Rose last year, we’ve become better persons. Rosie brings out our best qualities: love, tenderness, compassion, fun-spiritedness, inquisitiveness and optimism.
We are both godparents to multiple children. Mary Ann has a sister who has three children ages 14, 11 and 4. We spend a lot of time with the cousins: Rosie is loved and adored by each of them. Kevin is a godparent to several children including one cousin in Ireland. We travel frequently overseas to see many relatives. The Irish cousins are eager to meet Rosie!
Every summer we rent a house for family at the Jersey Shore. The beach house is a child’s paradise: our nieces and nephews love it as much as we do! It’s the best family time of the year because we are all together for extended playful time together: sports, beach, and ice cream sundaes!
We have complementary personalities. Mary Ann is free-spirited: she loves action, including skiing, ziplining and ocean kayaking. Kevin also enjoys outdoor activities but is more low-key and is just as happy as a fan at college football and basketball games.
We enjoy travel. We've visited many places together including Ireland, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Mary Ann has been to Russia, Greece and Hungary, which is where her grandparents were from. She loves learning about culture and history, and of course food!! We are always up for an adventure. Mary Rose will soon be old enough to join us on trips. We can’t wait for her to gain exposure to other cultures and scenery.
We live in a family-friendly town with many great public resources: terrific for young families. Also, we rescued two small Bichons a few years ago: their names are Chester and Seamus. The guys love long walks and car rides and playing with Rosie.
We volunteer. Mary Ann has worked at a nearby food pantry and serves on the Board of a women’s shelter.
We support open adoption and want birth parents to be comfortable communicating with us. We are acutely aware of the sacrifice that a birth mother makes to ensure the best care and future opportunities for her child. We’ve been happy to assume that responsibility with Rosie’s birth mother and father and they have appreciated our providing regular updates with pictures. The birth mother that selects us is forever a special part of our family.
We believe that children thrive when they are nurtured lovingly by their parents and given the freedom and opportunities to explore places, art, music and literature so as to find their strengths, interests and passions.
We promise birth parents our commitment and ability to provide a safe, stable home filled with love, laughter and continual encouragement to explore and learn. We are excited to possibly share our hearts and selves with your special child! We are quite loving, kind and playful: just ask Rosie!
Several of our close friends have adopted children and been helpful in our journey in becoming adoptive parents. They’ve set great examples for us by opening our eyes to wonderful possibilities and limitless love.
