Hello! We are Jennifer, Ian, and Evan, thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We met at Elizabethtown College, Pennsylvania back in 1998. We dated for 6 years before we got married. We had an intimate wedding ceremony of just immediate family on the beach in New Jersey where Ian grew up and then had a big celebration with extended family and friends in Pennsylvania where Jennifer grew up. Our relationship has always been about respecting and supporting each other, so it only made sense to celebrate both of our pasts as we started our future together. As a newly married couple, our passion was to travel and explore as many places and cultures as possible. Our curiosity led us through most of the states in the United States and through various other countries, from Brazil to Italy to Ireland. We truly enjoy meeting people, experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, and seeing what lies beyond our immediate surroundings.
We come from very close knit families, immediate and extended. We often get together with our extended family members for family gatherings, such as a big Memorial Day family camp out at Jennifer's parents’ house in Pennsylvania. We travel to Florida to spend time with Ian’s brother’s family. Jennifer’s extended family is scattered across the country and we have visited with many of them from California to Rio De Janeiro. Family has always been a very important part of our lives.
Our family has been baptized in the Christian faith but we do not attend organized religious services. We are not opposed to the ideals of Christianity but we instead choose to celebrate life and humanity in other ways.
We typically do everything as a family. We enjoy time on the beach in the summer, camping in the fall and going for snow walks in the winter. We enjoy being outdoors and being active. On a typical weekend, we would start with making breakfast like homemade pancakes and then we would take off on some type of adventure. The adventure could be just a walk around the neighborhood or a trip to the town library. We live in a quaint New Jersey community with access to a variety of options. There are many outdoor options but we also have access to the train into New York City.
We would like to keep an open line of communication with you. Our belief is we want to do whatever is best for the child and his/her future. We recognize embracing his/her biological family is very important to forming their identity and as long as the interaction is supportive and healthy for the child we will make every effort to keep the relationship open.
Although our current family does not show obvious signs of diversity, we accept and respect all people. We are raising our son to accept everybody and treat everybody with the same amount of kindness and respect. Our son’s first grade class includes children from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures and as he moves through the school system the diversity will increase. We are more than open to expanding our family to include a child from a different ethnic background. We will encourage our child to embrace their ethnic roots and we will support them by finding opportunities for them to learn and live the lifestyle in which they feel most comfortable.
