Janet first laid eyes on Sherri at Curves, the fitness chain for women.  Sherri claims our initial relationship developed mutually and then there is the truth.  Janet adjusted her workout times to “run into” Sherri.  wink. wink.  We talked and realized that we loved the same things:  family, walks, car travel, music and more.  We discovered we were charmingly punctual (aka anal about time - ha).  We became instant friends and our relationship developed over time.  We have been together for 7 years and became domestic partners in 2005.   

Janet and Sherri look forward to becoming supportive parents who teach our child to try new things and who share unconditional love with boundless laughter.  

Sherri and Janet are proud pet-parents to Daisy, a 10 year-old mixed breed dog and Hershey, a 5 year-old chocolate lab.  They have had their tails pulled and ears bent by many children in their lives. 

We were both raised Christian.  While we don’t formally practice our faith, we do say our prayers.  We are certain that someone is listening!  We celebrate Christmas with traditions such as setting out cookies/carrots for Santa/reindeer on Christmas Eve, opening gifts one at a time to appreciate them, and listening to Christmas music ALL day…even though we have heard it since late October! 

Our extended family plays an enormous role in our lives.  We get together with Janet’s entire family on birthdays and holidays.  Janet’s parents live close and we have impromptu get-togethers.  We also spend lots of time at her sister’s house to swim in the pool and go out on their boat.  Sherri’s parents live out of town but visit Sherri and her sister, who also lives nearby, frequently.  We are never short for reasons to hang with our family.  The good thing?  We actually like our family members!

Our family and friends are deeply supportive of our adoption plan.

We live in central NJ in an awesome suburban home that boasts a big back yard.  With a park two blocks away, we have a great neighborhood that enjoys blocks parties and takes care of one another. The neighbors are completely supportive of our adoption plan.  

We want to share our active interests with our child.   We are “that” couple who enjoys doing everything together.  We take lots of walks and bike rides.  We harmoniously complete yard work and then go inside for competitive Wii play.  Together we make a great team and want to add another player!

We can’t wait to teach our child everything we know from playing baseball/softball to playing piano; from building a dog house to building a gingerbread house; from fixing bad plumbing to fixing a good at-home meal; from growing flowers to growing dreams. 

In everything we do, our child will be our priority.

Adoption

We are excited about building a family through adoption.  We are also a tad nervous.

We recognize you have a lot of adoptive parents from which to choose.  But we hope you will see your child in our family. 

We are two caring, diverse, and cool (ok – most say so!) individuals who look forward to loving our child.  We are smart and creative and know exactly what we need from one another and want for our future together. 

We want to get to know you and keep in touch through the years in whichever way you are comfortable.  We will send you letters, pictures, updates and we are open to annual visits.  We plan on talking about adoption with our child as an infant (never too early) and then, age appropriately, in the years ahead. We are proud of our adoption plan. 

Janet will stay at home for, at a minimum, 6 months. Sherri will also take time to be at home.  We have many friends with children who are helpful in planning our next local daycare steps.
